More about this month's topic: Mediators use a variety of tools and techniques when they work with people to find solutions to problems. This interactive, one hour session will present an overview of some of those tools.
Speaker Bio: For more than 25 years, Elizabeth Kent has been helping people and institutions find solutions to sticky problems. Elizabeth started work in her early teens, stringing and selling puka shell necklaces. Since then she has worked in a variety of interesting and challenging positions, including life guarding, serving as the first female park ranger in the maintenance division at Haleakala National Park, clerking at two federal courts of appeals (New York and San Francisco), practicing commercial law, serving as the Deputy Director at Hawaii’s Department of Human Services, and directing the Hawaii State Judiciary’s Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution. Elizabeth is a facilitator and mediator, teaches graduate classes at the University of Hawaii in designing conflict management systems, negotiation, and facilitating community and organizational change, and trains in conflict resolution skills. She also is an artist, designing wearable art from vintage kimono which you may find at Magnolia in Kahala Mall and at Art by Mori in the South Shore Marketplace.
